What are jaw fillers?
Jaw fillers are a quick and easy alternative to surgery. Injecting dermal fillers into the jaw and chin area brings definition and balance to your profile, as well as correcting the effects of aging like loose or sagging skin.
What are the benefits of jaw fillers?
Like all dermal fillers, jaw fillers have a number of on-going benefits, particularly when it comes to combating the signs of aging. Jaw fillers effectively plump the jaw and chin, giving them more definition and tightening the skin. This makes it perfect for contouring the face and reducing the appearance of jowls.
Fillers will also bring symmetry to your profile, so if you are worried about an uneven jawline, or a soft chin, dermal fillers are the right choice for you.
What type of fillers are used in the jaw & chin?
The most popular fillers used to sculpt the jaw and chin use hyaluronic acid as the active ingredient. This has an immediate plumping effect and provides ongoing benefits as it stimulates natural collagen production. Brand names include Juvederm, Restylane, and Secret Rose.
Some practitioners may also choose to use a calcium hydroxylapatite filler like Radiesse.
How do jaw and chin fillers work?
During your consultation your aesthetician will discuss your desired results. Then they will use the dermal filler in selected areas of your jawline to contour and sculpt the perfect jawline using techniques designed to cause minimal bruising.
When will I see the results?
The results of your jaw and chin contouring treatment will be visible immediately – you’ll notice a fuller, more defined jawline as soon as you leave your appointment. However, the fillers take around 4 weeks to settle and this is when you’ll see the best results.
How long do jaw fillers last?
Although jaw and chin fillers are not a permanent solution, the results will last between one to two years. The amount of time they last depends on your lifestyle, how quickly your metabolism breaks down the filler, and your skin’s natural aging process.
To extend the results many patients opt for top up treatments around 9-12 months after their first treatment.
What should I do before my treatment?
To get the best results from your treatment you should follow the guidelines below
- Stop taking blood thinning medication such as aspirin or ibuprofen
- Avoid taking supplements such as John’s Wort, vitamin E, garlic, ginseng, and primrose oil.
- Don’t drink alcohol for at least 48 hours before your appointment
- Avoid topical skincare products containing retinoids, glycolic acid, and anti-aging creams in the days leading up to your appointment
- Don’t use hair removal creams, wax, or tweezers 24 hours before your appointment
What should I do after my appointment?
After your appointment you might notice some bruising and swelling, with the treated area being a little sore. To manage the pain it’s safe to take over-the-counter painkillers, and arnica or bromelain can help to reduce the bruising. Ice packs can also be applied to the treated area
How much do chin and jaw fillers cost?
The price of dermal jaw fillers depends on how many ml of the filler is required. If you are having a lot of contouring work done this can increase the price of the treatment. On average, most jaw fillers start at around £150 – £400 depending on the product and how much is required.
